Side character?
Heyππ½,
Right now, I'm really wishing this was a voice note or a video because there's a kind of excitement within me as I type.
I was reading the book of Esther and I noticed something. There was a character that is sidelined to the supporting character. Was that an error? You see, this is the Bible, and errors don't exist in its arrangement, message, or authors. Whenever we reference the book of Esther, our main focus is usually Queen Esther herself, but let's defer into Mordecai, the queen's cousin. He was actually the first person to be named in that book between him and Esther. Now, I'm not here to be building a conspiracy theory.... but I've come to understand that every name, every creature in the Bible has a purpose.
The King needed a Queen, Mordecai had the chosen one in his house.
The King was troubled and had no rest; a book containing a forgotten good deed of Mordecai was read to him.
The King needed advice on how to honour Mordecai, and would you look at that? Haman, the man who wanted Mordecai dead, walked in. The King needed someone to lead the horse and proclaim that the King is honouring Mordecai, and interestingly, the one who'd rather see Mordecai under the hooves of a horse was given the task.
Haman wanted to kill all the Jews because of the disrespect of the one man at the gate, Mordecai.
Haman built a gallow specifically for Mordecai. Mordecai informed his cousin, the queen, of what will befall the Jews and acted as a bridge between the Jews and Queen Esther.
Now, the King is so angry with Haman, who had so conveniently thrown himself on the bed Queen Esther sat on.
How did the servant that informed the King of the gallows in Haman's house describe it?
Esther 7:9 KJV [9] And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon.
Omo, see grace, see favour!
The weapon they built for you will not prosper. In Jesus's Name! Amen ππΎ.
And the last chapter of Esther was titled "The Greatness of Mordecai". Did you know that Mordecai was recorded as the second in power after King Xerxes and was great among the Jews? I might not know who you are, but quit living like a side character or an NPC. There's favour on your life.
What did Mordecai do?
- Just that one good deed that was recalled, and I don't think it was the reason for his promotion
- He was always at the gate
- He wasn't an official
- He wasn't in the room when they were discussing how to bless him
- He wasn't in the room when the weapon formed against him was used on its Builder, Haman
Favour isn't just for people who seem loud and are astonishingly everywhere. Sometimes favour can come silently, when you least expect it and from where you least expect it. Like, could it have ever crossed Mordecai's mind that he'll receive such a great honour from the King?
Don't lose faith, oo; your miracle is definitely on the way, and before you know it, even if you didn't see the wind or rain, but your valley will be filled with water. Don't use jealousy for the loud wins of your friends to squash the beauty God is creating in your life. Celebrate your little wins, trust God with every part of your journey, and watch him elevate you.
